At last, Sony finally unveiled the Playstation 4 hardware! They did an earlier press-con a few months back dubbed as the “Playstation Meeting” but most of the topics covered there are focused on PS4’s hardware specification, it’s “social networking” capabilities, some games/tech demos, and PS4’s new dual shock controller. In short, it’s like mini announcement that there will be a Playstation 4 and that we should wait for it. They didn’t show the actual Playstation 4 hardware at that time.
They officially unveiled it yesterday at E3 and I’m sure you guys all watched Sony’s two and a half hour press conference (which you can re-watch above). In my opinion, Sony dominated this year’s E3, not because of the games, but because of their crowd pleasing announcements. We all know that Microsoft’s Xbox One has a lot of restrictions specially when it comes to “used games”. It’s also a console packed with DRM and it requires you to be “always online” to play. Kinect is also a mandatory part of the system, it will not run without it (which doesn’t makes sense).
“The PS4 is the exact opposite of the Xbox One.”
The PS4 is the exact opposite of the Xbox One. It supports used games. It doesn’t require the user to be always online to play. It’s still “region free”. It’s small and still much powerful “spec-wise” compared to the Xbox One. And it looks drop dead gorgeous. The only notable changes they made is when it comes to the PSN platform. We’ll now have to pay for it in order to play online multiplayer which I think is a “win-win” sacrifice since it’s still much cheaper than Xbox Live. Oh, and before I forget, PS4 is $100 cheaper than the Xbox One. I’ll still buy an Xbox One maybe after 1 year of release. What’s your next move Microsoft?
