Since I’m from the Philippines, I really haven’t experienced any otaku conventions here which has Culture Japan or Danny Choo in it. There are actually LOTS of anime conventions happening here each year but I haven’t seen or experienced a single one with the same calibre as Anime Festival Asia (AFA) – which is mostly being held (interchangeably) in Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia (Looking forward to AFA Philippines), LA’s Anime Expo, or even Danny’s Culture Japan Night. Culture Japan is a “mainstay” brand in these types of conventions and since AFA and Culture Japan have not yet visited the Philippines, I basically have no way to get my hands on any exclusive Culture Japan goodies.
Lucky for me, some of my friends here personally attended the latest Anime Festival Asia (AFA2013) which was held in Singapore last November. They called me via Skype, turned on the video and used it as my personal “eye” in experiencing what AFA looks like from the inside. Saw Danny fixing her Mirai Smart Doll (alone) and told them to go talk to him (and mention my name) so that I could say “hi”. We managed to talk for a bit but it was too noisy. My friends continued to walk around and I basically saw most of the booths there. Video quality is HD so it’s like I was really there at the event ^^
The fun part here was I didn’t know at first that Danny sent me some Culture Japan / Mirai goodies. He basically gave it to my friends and told them to give it to me once they’re back here in the Philippines. It contains a couple of Mirai tees (which perfectly fits) and the very popular Moekanji Japanese learning cards. Good stuff!
And yep, I’ve been collaborating with Danny for quite some time now. Really an amazing guy and a very good example of how to achieve your dreams in life through hardwork and dedication. I remember when I first saw him dancing in his stormtrooper outfit across Japan in 2007. It still makes me laugh unti now.
