Finally had some time the other day to do some quick photo shoot of one of my figures. This time, the subject will be none other than Velvet Batrass, a character from the RPG game Shining Ark (シャイニング・アーク). This figure was created by the super talented people at Alphamax and if you’re a fan of their company, you know that their best figures are always sculpted by a very talented artist that goes by the name of “2%”. The figure was also based on the character design work of popular illustrator Tony Taka which is absolutely gorgeous.

I already own this figure for quite some time now and she’s one of my favorite “desk” figures in my collection – meaning figures that fits anyone’s desk without eating too much space. Back in the day, when I was still a newbie collector, I always look for epic diorama type figures. But as my collection grows overtime, I realized that these type of figures (although really awesome to looks at) eats a lot of display space. A display rack which can hold 8-10 figures at a time will only hold 4-5 at max with these kind of figures. I end up boxing some of them to give way to my new ones – which sucks.

Going back to the figure, as always from Alphamax, overall build quality is top notch. Sculpt work is very detailed and the paint job, so good, it’s like the figure was taken out of the actual video game. Her scale is also “just right”. At 1/8, you don’t need to worry about display space. And the 1/8 scale I’m talking about is the real 1/8, not the 1/8 of Griffon (which is sooo freaking small). I also love the details of the treasure chest she’s sitting on. Too bad it’s empty :P Will totally recommend this figure to anyone. You’ll love it regardless of whether you know her origins or not. She was released late January 2014, ¥9,800.
