I was surprised when I saw this news online. Sony just unveiled their new PS3 model (Yes, PS3, no news for PS4 yet) at the recently held Tokyo Game Show. The new model is 20-25% thinner and lighter compared to the current PS3 slim. It comes in 2 colors namely “charcoal black” and “classic white”. Not that excited with this one but good news for new PS3 owners.

What do you think of this new PS3?

It’s a good thing that the PS4 wasn’t launched, ‘cuz I just bought my PS3! Haha!

@Ron: Yeah, I’m not sure what’s their purpose for releasing a new PS3 model… hmmmm. Waiting for Microsoft’s move :P

I think it’s really un-necessary. You don’t need 3 versions of the same system. They should just focus on making exclusives until the launch of the PS4 IMO.

@Baldwin: Right! I’m not really sure what’s their purpose of even releasing this new model. Why not waste their resources on their next gen console? Do you think MS also has a new one? (lols)

@Otakumouse Haha who knows? Personally, I don’t think MS will release another Xbox 360. If they do, then whatevers lol

Sony is probably waiting on their main competitors Microsoft and Nintendo moves, These days release of new consoles is so competitive and expensive it could mean the product would make or break (ex. SEGA Dreamcast). Nintendo just recently announced its new console the Wii U which is about the same level as the PS3. Not sure if its backward compatible but I think it should be,

Ah, I miss the days of the console wars for the 8-bit and 16-bit between Nintendo and SEGA in the 80s and 90s. Though the technology mattered, it was the games produced by them and third party developers that truly shined.

@Baldwin: Hahahaha! We need a next gen console already!

@Bumbayker: Awww, the Dreamcast! I still have it here. I super love that console back then. The first console that offered players a Resident Evil game with next gen graphics (Code Veronica). I also have all of their Shenmue games which I’m super addicted too! And don’t forget DOA! Ahhhh, I miss those days…

If it’s better and cheaper than the previous models, then that’s really good news. Otherwise…meh.
Thinking I might get/ask one for Christmas (or when I graduate Med hahaha)

@Giles: I think the main focus of this new model is the updated weight and size. Performance wise, It’s still the same with the “current/old” PS3 slim that we have. ^_^
